Olivia's naming day

So the weather took a turn for the worst but the party still carried on and the gorgeous Olivia had her family and friends around to celebrate her naming ceremony.

The short ceremony conducted by the lovely Father John Kimberley at Olivia's family home was a lovely way to set this little girl on her way in life.

Eastbourne Portraits-Post prom shoots-Sussex Photographer

We had 2 shots and this and here a few more images from our second shoot. We headed to the Sovereign Harbour area where we met the girls, we all had a laugh and even met with some officers who were happy to keep the girls in line!

Sussex Portraits-Post prom shoots-Sussex photographer

Myself and good friend and colleague Peter Prior, have been working on an idea similar to the seniors shoots in the states, the idea is to photograph teenagers in their prom outfits dresses and suits.

A fun shoot and stunning images away from the mayhem that a prom night can bring.

It's always a pleasure to work alongside Peter, and with 2 full time professional photographers with quite quite different we manage to merge to create for you a fabulous combination of images.

All shot on My Canon 5D mark11 with 2.8 or 1.8 lenses and using natural available light.

Lianne & Graham waited years for there anniversary to come around and planned their wedding, little did they know double trouble was on it's way that nearly put the mockers on their day.

The beautiful twin girls arrived and left mum with some healing to do.

I'm pleased to say Mum Dad and the 2 girls made it to their big day and all had a wonderful Wedding day with their family and friends.

They held their ceremony and reception in the top class Cavendish Hotel in Eastbourne

A mixture of events

The last few months have been busy what with South Africa in February, coming back home may have been a come down but far from it, I hit the ground running so they say, fitting in a trip to Belfast and a chance to view the stunning Giant's causeway up near Bushmills, a stay at the most gorgeous Bushmills http://www.bushmillsinn.com/ what a treat. And then catching up with an old friend I hadn't seen in 20 years.. woo it's been busy.

A brief trip to the stunning city of Seville for a few days and having to endure 37ºC at least it got us ready for Britain's April heatwave!

Then back to work and weddings, babies a dance school and a few other events have kept me busy.

Next on the agenda, I have the fortunate opportunity to share my experience with GVi in South Africa with the ladies of Athena networking groups around the Sussex area. I look forward to meeting you soon. www.gvi.co.uk

My time in Africa is nearly over....

My 4 weeks in South Africa have been a fabulous tour of a beautiful country taking in some of the sights this beautiful country has to offer.

I've been on the windy east coast in Gordon's bay and in Fish Hoek both sporting beautiful white sandy beaches. And in Paarl a stunning and lush inland town right in the centre of the wine lands.

Each place is different, the projects GVi supports are benefitting from the time that young and older volunteers give to them but right back comes an amazing feeling of look what I achieved by giving something back. The volunteers pay to come and gain this experience, I am imagine most leave feeling good about themselves having gained new skills but having made a difference in a country that needs all the help it can get.

The pictures of the children here show them all dressed well, it's a cultural thing, sadly that can become more important than food!!! All of the children have a story a background wether they come from a family home or live at the Orphanage.

I find when I look at my photographs, children smiling back at me, but when I look closer their eyes often say so much more of the troubles that lay inside them... Don't get me wrong, they are the most happy children you could ever come across but there are more troubles that you or I will ever know that lie beneath that happy face...

Please pass this on to your friends and family anyone you know who might want to volunteer anything form 2 weeks to 12 and beyond..... It could change your life aswell as the children.

The winds of time sure blow strong in Gordons bay

having arrived in Gordons Bay a return visit the winds have been blowing strong, I walked along the Strand earlier today only to be sand blasted from the seashore, I may need to exfoliate but a little notice and time for a pamper would have been preferred...

I have visited the schoo,l the nursery, the sports programme and the Orphanage, there is so much going on here with GVI it's kind of hard to keep up, well despite this and a little sunstroke to boot, I have had time to kneed some bread, a project being developed to produce bread and supply GVI from the village, meet the children I worked with last year and of course revel in the sounds of the children shouting teacha Shark my fondly remembered AKA.. I thought it was cool!!

Having arrived in Paarl I have settled into my new home but for just a few days, during this time I have had the pleasure of the company of some wonderful people who have given up their time to work with GVi and the children..

In charge is Erik from the US and alongside him Jess who his from just up the road from me in Hastings. Jemma & Caity from Oz are full of life as is Caro from Germany, working with the babies and toddlers Helen and Tom from the UK. It would be rude not to mention Kim (US) my roomy for the last few days who is out here long term and I don't think she wants to go home, where is home... For me, where my heart is and it's hard to imagine that you don't leave a part you here in Africa. T.I.A. This is Africa...

Well Wednesday afternoon was a real treat, after several false starts the children were transported from the Hope Centre to a field where the sprinklers were on and the following fun times were had... I will eave you with the pictures... such amazing fun and the kids were loving it...

Fish Hoek GVi

Cape Town Suburbs

Here we are in the beautiful land of South Africa, my second visit to this land with awe inspiring beauty. When you drive along the south east coast from Fish Hoek to Hermanus you pass by some of the most spectacular views you will ever see. The mountains rising from the sea, the shining white sands edged with the crystal waters.

It's hard to imagine the poverty that lies just a few hundred metres away.

South Africa is a mix of wealth and poverty and the colour divide is very evident. The Charity I am working with is GVi Global Vision International they are an innovative charity who work with some fabulous people who are running projects and have really benefitted from the help GVI can bring.

Jabalani and Ibis are creche and preschool establishments in the Westlake community, Cynthia is the lady who had the vision and desire to help the children that she saw daily alone on the streets, their parents either having to take the work they were offered and had no child care or some are simply not fit to care for them.

25 children attend each day and Cynthia has now got a couple of local staff helping on the projects. Gvi has a team in Fish Hoek that go in during the week to run an educational/care program. Headed up by Lisa and with Holly in support they co-ordinate the volunteers who stay from 2 weeks to 12 or longer..

Wedding Fair in Sussex: Wedding Workshop at the Sovereign Yacht Club in Eastbourne...

Just a quick heads up to say that I will be exhibiting at the Yacht Club at the Eastbourne's Sovereign Harbour on Sunday 16th January.

The first fair of 2011 being held in association with my colleagues at the Wedding Workshop, a small group of professional and allied wedding businesses based in Sussex.

The doors open at 11am and close at 4pm. Entry is free and there is plenty of free parking outside.

As we close down on 2010 I can reflect on my year as interesting one. Life has thrown a few challenges and difficult times my way, but with help and support of my dear loved ones and belief in myself to always conquer and grow, I can say my path is looking great on it's way into 2011.

My most exciting venture is to head to South Africa a return visit to the children in Nomzamo and since I was there this year 2 new orphanages have been opened and new volunteers are gaining some fabulous life experience in working with these fabulous kids.

I am very much looking forward to working alongside some amazing people who have dedicated their time and finance into this project...

For me I will get to see the children I taught in May, those who gave me the cool label Teacha Shark!!! (just think jaws and your hand on your head and you will understand that one.)

I will be taking photographs for GVI, a great privilege for me and I am soo excited I can hardly contain myself... I gained so much form these children when I first met them.. How much will they have changed, grown and learnt in 8 months? I will let you know .....

It's been a strange time for us southerners getting snow more than a foot deep in places.

Looking at garden tables with snow mounds suited more to the ice cream vans!!

Not to be outdone the intrepid explorer from NXPHOTO Nicky headed out into the snow on foot. Trudging the streets in search of friends but no she found this lot yes snow and ice and frosty the snowman (sorry couldn't use his picture he wouldn't sign a model release!)

A few days a remote part of the lakes.

A short break in the lakes.

One of my oldest buddies and I decided a few days walking in the lakes would be the ideal break and get away. On recommendation from another buddy Tim we booked into the homely accommodation that is Stanley House in Eskdale, my little knowledge of the area didn't really prepare me for the journey across the death defying routes of Wrynose pass and Hardknott pass, nigh on the most treacherous in the UK.. ish.. On our way in we passed some cyclists who had cycled up Hardknott we applauded their feat only to have them say we have Wrynose to go yet and wasn't until we descended in the car we realised what a momentous effort it was that they had cycled up

this pass!!! in my lifetime no way..

Our second day we planned to meet our buddy Zoe from Zoephotography in Liverpool.

We were all scuppered by the everso chilly early morning weather, Zoe took 15mins to scrape the ice from her car.

Caz and myself attempted and survived a death defying drive across the passes, where the drive up steep hills and I mean steep, we slid on ice the car stalled and my heart nearly popped out of my chest!! At the top we waited while drivers below chipped away at the lethal ice that had yet seen the sun and had a chance to thaw but we survived and we are here to tell our fabulous tales of survival and intrepid exploring by my standards....

Cazy & Mark at Goodwood Park Hotel

From the first meeting with Cazy and mark I was excited about covering this wedding.

I met Cazy a striking looking woman, tall and elegant. I met Mark her lovely man and sat and discussed what they wanted. In a nutshell they really weren't after loads of groups but they wanted a fashion style shoot mainly just the 2 of them, well that is, who the wedding day is all about.

My friend Pete had let me come along to a couple of his weddings earlier this year so I returned the compliment knowing any good pro would love this day. With Cazy looking stunning and knowing how to work the camera and mark enjoying the whole process we all had an amazing day.

Here are some of the results. and just to say, the pink background, they were taken in Cazy's quite small kitchen!

It's a pleasure to do your wedding

Ian is a part of our Wedding Workshop group and he's a hard task master.

When asked to photograph his forthcoming wedding, it made me think this could be fun.

His blushing bride Karen was well aware of what she was taking on her knight in shining armour.

They had a beautiful day and with many of the members of the workshop providing their services on the day, it was like working with your family and yes nearly as much trouble, I'm just joking Ian.

Serving you the Dumb Waiters

It was a couple of years ago at The Boship farm Hotel Wedding Fayre.

At the time they were called Esprit. More recently they have returned to there original name of The DumbWaiters.

Based in Worthing West Sussex, these guys consist of Alex, Andy, Melissa and Tracey with DJ Mark who works with the band and completes the line up.

Having been asked to shoot the band, (not literally!), against a white background, I suggested an outside shoot may be a better option.

The joys of the August weather meant it was touch and go through the day, but come the evning we ended up with the most amazing of backdrop skies and to top it all we got a stunning sunset.

These pictures were so much more interesting than the everso slightly boring white backdrop!!!

Worthing seafront provided some fun backgrounds and we must apologise to the young couple under the stairs who we disturbed in the making of these photographs! ;0)

It seems I have left this blogging a little too long! It's going to be a busy day talking to people in the arndale so I will be relatively quick and avoid the rambling!!

It's been a fabulous 2 weeks, with weddings and portraits and a day spent with Martin Grahame-Dunn in the beautiful Leamington Spa. Thank you for sharing some of your wealth knowledge Martin, it was a brilliant and informative day.

At the back end of last week I had the pleasure of shooting some promo pictures for the band The Dumb Waiters. We had a fabulous time on Worthing seafront and the weather even produced some amazing skies for our back drop.

It was a very early and supposed to be sunny morning, Fee picked me up in her with the Golden Harp laying on it's side in the back. I think we were both bright and chirpy for 3.30am I wouldn't really say I was a morning person.

Still off we trundled and then a few spots of moisture in the air hit the windscreen.. Rain, no I want a sunrise!!!

We persisted in our quest to find the early morning dazzling sunlight, well we didn't quite get that but we did get, a stunning blue morning.

We were on Bexhill seafront, just alongside the De la Warr Pavillion.

Hey it was worth it as Fee bought me breakfast although it was difficult to find somewhere open at 5.30am!

What a beautiful time of day...

And Fee was the perfect model. :0)

It would seem a good idea to get into the mode of blogging, I've never seen myself as someone who has a lot to say because I tend to let my photographs do the talking.

But I am sure as I begin to waffle freely you may argue that statement.

Having spent a few days up north with some of my photography friends I am inspired to get my words out there.

Having spent sometime at The Chevin Park Country Hotel, yesterday, a huge log cabin in the woods, and a staff team that certainly attended to our needs with professionalism and a friendly manner, I just wanted to say thank you. And a huge thank you to Mark Pearson Photography for him sharing his hugely invaluable knowledge. Thanks again.
